Photos from Day 1 in France
So we arrived after in Chamonix after a long day/night of travel. Dan and Barb were already here;they arrived on Saturay, which was smart. We walked around town buying postcards, more hiking gear and looked longingly in the cheese and meat shops. We tried the local beer and found it to our liking. We sat in t h e town square for lunch, and had pizza and pasta for dinner in another outdoor restaurant. We watched the U.S. v. England World Cup match in the cozy bar of our hotel with a nice Englishman who really did not want to watch the game with a any Americans but tolerated us because by then, we were half asleep. There was much cheering and celebrating in the streets by the young Americans between 11 pm and 2 am. I was tired enough that I was not bothered and even sort of wanted to go down and join in. If course, the celebrating ended when there was a dispute but people went their own ways before the gendarmes arrived.
Today we change hotels and meet our hiking group, go up the cable car to hike a.little on Mt. Blanc and end with a.group dinner.
